Day 4 – State 4 – OK
Oklahoma City is a ‘must return to’ city! Mark and I decided we need more time to explore and experience this centrally located vibrant town – lots of outdoor attractions, restaurants with top-rated chefs, museums, and more! Our sole focus was only the Stockyards district- which was fun! We both bought a pair of cowboy boots at Langston’s and thoroughly enjoyed our hearty dinner at the unassuming Cattleman’s, but we will not be investing in any cattle. 🐮

Day 5 – State 5 – TX

We drove to Amarillo and stayed at Oasis RV Resort for the night. This area is on the famed Route 66 and Amarillo hosts the Texas Route 66 Festival Finale in late June. The campground is styled along Mission architecture but has odes to Route 66 and the nearby Cadillac Ranch. We found our fellow campground travelers to be outgoing and friendly. The dog owners in the dog park were unusually welcoming of oversized Timber, so he wore himself out meeting, sniffing, playing, and chasing other traveling canines! 🐶

We experienced our first taste of the hot, dry windy days but cooler, almost chilly nights. Amarillo is about 3700 feet in elevation and Mark opened the windows for the cool overnight breezes.
We were about one mile from the infamous Cadillac Ranch – a row of half-buried and spray-paintable cars along the I-40 service road. I attempted to spray on another layer of paint and Mark couldn’t resist adding to his Yeti cooler sticker collection.

Day 6 – State 6 – NM

We selected another Harvest Host location for this overnight stay. Trilogy Beef Community is a cattle ranch co-op committed to providing locally grown, USDA-certified beef to the Moriarty community. Jackson’s first stay on a working cattle ranch – Ya-Hoo!
The hosts were extremely nice and we chose a small selection of appetizing steaks to put in the freezer. However, Jack had to go into 4-wheel drive to get to our spot! I was holding cabinet doors shut, while the ones I couldn’t reach in time sent plates flying and drawers ramming against far walls. Timber almost had motion sickness!! Jack and Cheeto were rockin’ & rollin’! The red dirt rutted road out to the deserted steer pasture was probably one of the tightest spots where I’ve tested Mark’s & Jack’s abilities!! Needless to say, Mark is questioning the rest of our boondocking locations this trip.
