We all made it to Great Falls and plan to pull out late this morning for a border crossing shakedown overnight in Shelby, MT. But first, our fur babies have to receive their Certificate of Veterinary Inspection from the vet we arranged here in Montana to give us our paperwork. [The new CDC guidelines and state of Alaska requirements are causing us many headaches!]
Lewis & Clark, again!
I didn’t realize there were soooo many Lewis & Clark Interpretative Centers and/or Museums across the US, including ones in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, South Dakota, and … you guessed it, Montana! There are roughly 17 spread along the Lewis & Clark Trail, which is maintained by the National Forest Service (and not the National Park Service). Anyway, no more trivia, but a few pictures from the center here in Great Falls.
The men had to portage one of the pirogues up the falls once they reached this part of Montana. The Interpretative Center has a 3D diorama of the event.
A few other photos, including the falls from which ‘Great Falls’ originated. Due to the dam, the falls are “tame” in today’s time. Not quite sure why the painted buffalo was in the entrance of the Interpretative Center, but it looked kinda cool.
Time to meet the Gang
Top Left is our fearless wagon master and his wife, Scott & Carolyn. The idea of the trip began with them. Next is Bill & Sally, then Rhonda & Jeff. Orville and Mark are top right. Orville’s girlfriend is flying to meet up with us in Fairbanks. Bottom left is Marion and his cousin Paula. Beside Paula is Phyllis, whose husband, Steve, is in the picture below. [They weren’t sitting beside each other, so I had to have him as a single!]. Bill and Steve are brothers. Above right is Liz & Mike
Glacier National Park
Mark and I, along with Timber, drove 2.5 hours from the Great Falls campground to sneak in a day trip to this incredible National Park. Pictures cannot capture the true beauty of this place, but I’ll give it a shot. (Like the pun?)
