Yesterday was one of those kinds of travel days. We knew and had planned for our second day to be our longest day of driving for this first segment. Mark was ready for an 8 – 8 1/2-hour day of driving per the plan. We were going to work for a few hours before pulling out, drive the long day and then work again after dinner at our new spot.
However, we didn’t anticipate that he would get scheduled for a late morning call that lasted an hour past our departure time. So, close to noon, we regrouped and re-energized for our 8+ hour drive. Off we go… to very quickly get sidelined in Lexington, KY, where I-75 was at a total standstill… for hours… even with Highway patrol diverting traffic.
An active shooter threatening suicide caused all of I-75 to be shut down. Sadly, you can read the story here. Almost two hours later, we were back on route, with a new arrival time of 9:50pm. Did I mention long day?
Stats thus far —
We traveled through 5 states: NC, TN, KY, OH, and are now in northwest Indiana.
Since pulling out of SC, we’ve logged 750 miles. For the next two days, we are in a very quaint campground in Shipshewana, IN. We’re picking up a new RV sofa and having Star Link installed on Jack’s roof.
